The brief:
Our Hard Surfaces Repair team were subcontracted by Tilbury Douglas to deliver a range of internal and hard surface repairs at Sugar Hill Primary School in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
Tilbury Douglas was appointed to construct a new single-storey, L-shaped building to replace the existing two-storey school, which had been identified as structurally flawed. The development formed part of the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme and included new classrooms, a school hall, and specialist teaching suites.
Why is this work important?
During new construction projects like this, surfaces often become damaged by tools, materials, or general site activity. Instead of replacing expensive items, the SD Team repaired them using specialist techniques.
Cosmetic repair technicians help reduce environmental impact by using specialist products and techniques to restore damaged surfaces in place, avoiding the need for removal and replacement.
From a sustainability perspective, repair work is significantly more environmentally friendly, as it reduces waste and helps prevent materials from ending up in landfill during peak construction periods.
The results:
The team attended site for approximately five man days, carrying out a range of internal and hard surface repairs.
Works included the restoration of desks, repairs to window frames, improvements to vinyl flooring, and maintenance to internal doors, helping to enhance the overall condition and usability of key areas throughout the school.
Operating within an active education setting, the team worked efficiently to complete the works with minimal disruption to staff and pupils, ensuring the school remained a safe and functional space throughout.
