Nick Jones and Sven Müller are eyeing one final push for points as they head into this weekend’s British GT Championship season finale at Donington Park.
This weekend marks the final outing of the year for the Team Parker Racing-run Porsche 911 GT3 R, with SD Team drivers Jones and Müller looking to fulfil the potential they’ve shown all season and finish the campaign on a high.
The #66 Porsche has shown impressive pace across the course of this year, but hasn’t always had the luck to go with it. Jones and Müller have bagged four sixth places from the hour-long sprint rounds and could have had a podium at Oulton Park had it not been for unpredictable conditions sapping the Porsche’s tyres.
However, it has been a different story in the longer races, with misfortune denying them a string of good results. A top six appeared to be on the cards in the opening race of the season at Donington Park before an unlucky accident cost the #66 at mid-distance. Likewise, Jones and Müller were chasing a strong fifth during the last race at Brands Hatch, only for a tangle to take them out of contention.
Donington Park has traditionally been a strong track for the team with Jones claiming his breakthrough outright British GT victory there back in 2020. Müller is also now no stranger to the 2.5-mile track, having raced there earlier in the year. Now the pair aim to put together a consistent and clean weekend in the hope that the two-hour finale will bring them the sort of result their pace has deserved.
Nick Jones says: “I love Donington Park, it’s one of my favourite circuits, so I’m really fired up for this weekend. All season we’ve had the pace in the car, and Sven’s been super impressive. That’s reflected in the sprint race results where we could easily have had a podium or two, but in the longer races luck simply hasn’t gone our way so far. Hopefully we’ve got that out of the way and can enjoy a strong last race. The team has been working so well, and I’m always learning new things from Sven, so the plan is simply to give it our best shot, stay out of trouble and see where we end up.”
Sven Müller adds: “I’m really looking forward to the final round. The Porsche should be strong around Donington Park and we’ve seen we have the speed there in testing and in practice, we just got unlucky in the first race there with the accident. This time around, the pace should still be there and if we can do a solid job and stay clear of mistakes then we can hope to finish the season with a podium. That is always the aim.”
The British GT weekend at Donington Park gets underway with testing on Thursday, October 2, before the event begins in earnest with twin practice sessions and Qualifying on Saturday, before the two-hour season finale on Sunday. All sessions will feature live timing via TSL Timing, with Qualifying and the race being streamed live on the GT World YouTube channel.
