Reigning British GT4 Pro-Am champions Nick & Scott have endured a difficult title defence so far, despite showing impressive pace aboard their Team Parker Racing-run Mercedes-AMG GT4.
The pair have been in the hunt for outright GT4 victories at every round this year, but a myriad of issues outside of their control means they head into the two-hour race at the Belgian Grand Prix venue lying fifth in the Pro-Am standings, and sixth in the overall GT4 pecking order.
Regardless, Nick and Scott have proven themselves to be a credible threat to the top step of the podium, with the duo eclipsing a record field to win this year’s showpiece Silverstone 500 event to cement that fact.
The last round at Donington Park also promised much, with Nick running well within the leading pack before having to make an unscheduled pitstop after picking up some freak radiator damage, which effectively ruled them out of a result.
Regardless, their title defence is far from over, with the pair keen to make up some ground on a world-class circuit this weekend.
Nick Jones says: “I’m really looking forward to Spa. It’s such a stunning track and it’s one of those that makes you realise how lucky you are to be driving these incredible cars and competing like we are.
“Donington was obviously disappointing for us, especially as we seemed to be over the little gremlins from the start of the year, but the car is now patched up and 100 per cent and we go again. There’s still three races left, and as far as I’m concerned we’re pushing flat-out for wins from here on.”
Scott Malvern adds: “I’m not even thinking about Donington, we moved straight on immediately after that race, and Spa could be really good for us. The Mercedes-AMG is feeling great at the moment, and it should suit Spa nicely – particularly the fast and flowing second sector. We might struggle a bit at the start of the lap and the end of it with the long straights, which better suit cars like the McLaren, but I think we’ll be well up there.
“Nick is driving superbly this year and taking the fight to the higher-grades drivers, which is a real mark of his progress. We could easily have won a race at every round this year, so I don’t see why we can’t be in the fight to win at each of the last three either.”
Qualifying for the British GT Championship at Spa-Francorchamps takes place at 1510hrs CET and 1410 GMT on Saturday. Sunday’s two-hour race starts at 1230 local time, 1130 in the UK and will be streamed live via Britishgt.com.
